Our Tethered Kin

Our Tethered Kin is a short story by Ronan FitzGibbon which he is adapting for the stage alongside Gavin McEntee. It tells the story of Aeni and Abrafo. Two siblings with the power to see the dark and ancient powers at play in the minds of men. They are torn apart by circumstance and set off on an epic journey through dark and light to find each other again.

It is an exploration of the relationship between contemporary morality and our ancient selves told through the language of fairy tale, puppetry and dance.

Through our residency at the Everyman, Ronan and Gavin have been able to develop the project significantly over the last few months. They have been joined by the BrokenCrow Ensemble, dancer; Rachel Ni Bhraoinain and actors like Eadaoin O’Donoghue and Andrew Macklin. They have also had Conall Morrisson on hand to ensure they don’t disappear up their own metaphors!

The team have been exploring butoh…

…puppetry…

…and a certain amount of messing around.

Here are some of the artists, makers and thinkers that have been inspiring us and helping us to create this production’s aethetic.

We are aiming to produce this show in 2021 but will be hoping to share the developing work with you along the way!
